CIMB is hiring for 3 positions in #brunei. CIMB is ranked #4 in M&A League table.

I spotted a job ad on Page 57 of the weekend Borneo Bulletin which I thought was worth sharing.

CIMB Group is hiring for: Senior Manager (3-5 years work experience, Master degree advantageous), Executive (1-3 years work experience, fresh graduates encouraged) and Assistant Executive (1-2 years experience with a Diploma).

FYI, CIMB (Commerce International Merchant Bankers Berhad) is the 5th largest bank in South East Asia by total assets. I think the job posting is blog worthy because:

(More after the break …)

Ranked #4 in mergers & acquisitions league table

Thomson Reuters publishes league tables (free registration required!) which rank the investment banks and professional service firms by the volume of business they’ve won and announced on a Quarterly basis.

For the last quarter of data available, (4Q2009), CIMB has done pretty well: #1 by number of deals announced and #4 tie by number of deals completed in Asia (excluding Japan). CIMB also has a strong position in the  mid-market rankings: in Singapore Joint #1 place by number of deals, #13th place by value of deals, in Hong Kong #3 place by number of deals, #8 place by value of deals, Hochinma (HongKong, China, India, Malaysia) #1 place by number of deals, #8th place by value of deals.

Ranked “Best Employer” in the Banking & Financial Services Institutions by Malaysia HR Awards `08-`09.

CIMB receives many awards and accolades. Not just by the local institutions (Malaysia HR Awards and  GradMalaysia.com) but also by the International institutions (Asiamoney, The AsianBanker and IFR Asia).

The Bottom Line

The Big 4 do quite well in the league tables as well, but compared with the finance houses, the Big 4 can’t also provide capital. And this reveals the big difference in the rankings – the finance houses have an advantage where the they can cross-sell their fees for raising finance, market-making and other related financial services.

A year ago I blogged about a similar topic – “Corporate Finance in Brunei“. Most of what I said still stands – that when choosing where to work or who a company should engage as their advisors, the Big 4 will excel at what they are well known for: providing an independent, trusted opinion.
